Forced to retire after a locked wheel and contact with the barriers, George Russell was not successful over the weekend in Russia. Williams communicated this Thursday on the exact cause of the wheel stuck on the car from the British.

“We noticed a problem with the device that holds the wheel nut on George's car, which caused the right front wheel to lock up when braking, says Dave Robson, Chief Race Engineer.

The design is proven. Remaining inventory will be inspected thoroughly and we do not anticipate a repeat of the issue. »

Robson also reiterated the reasons which pushed Williams to recall Robert Kubica to the pits prematurely. “Unfortunately, we were forced to bring Robert's car back due to the damage suffered in Singapore and Russia in order to protect ourselves during future events (for sufficient parts stocks).

The team has been working hard to improve racing performance ahead of Japan and the final races. »

Today, Orlen, sponsor of Robert Kubica, indicated having asked the team for explanations about this abandonment.
