A threat of boycott of the VLN and 24 Hours of Nürburgring events recently emerged in Germany, coming from some of the teams taking part in these competitions, united in the newly created ILN association.

The teams criticize the DMSB (German Motorsport Federation) for not having implemented the latest proposals from the drivers in the 2016 regulations for races on the Nordschleife, in particular in the danger zones limited to 60 km/h. The overly bureaucratic approach to the license established by the DMSB (to ensure that a driver has sufficient experience before competing in a race on the Nordschleife) is also criticized.

Olaf Manthey, spokesperson for the group which includes among others Manthey Racing, Frikadelli Racing, and Black Falcon, indicated that if no agreement was found on the drivers' proposals, the teams could not start the VLN races and of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring.
