The Commission ofEndurance of the FIA and the ACO had requested at the end of 2012 an inventory concerning the GT. After the various findings, the governing bodies created a working group called Convergence GT. The latter had four major objectives aimed at facilitating convergence between the two categories LM GTE and GT3, the two major regulations currently in force to adapt a so-called Grand Touring car to competition.

– The establishment of technical regulations allowing maximum convergence of LM GTE and GT3 regulations.

– Maintain two distinct categories, one dedicated to private teams and the other to car manufacturers as well as professional teams.

– Define as many common technical bases as possible allowing the development of a single car.

– Define the points of differentiation offering the possibility, on the same car basis, to enter the private teams or professional teams/manufacturers category.

Following the various meetings last week, although the manufacturers reached agreement on the chassis side, they did not find common ground for the engine side. As a result, the FIA decided to keep the sonic flange engines for the LM GTEs. The new chassis developments will be proposed to manufacturers in future meetings concerning the evolution of the LM GTE regulations in view of the 2016 season.
