Updated 2022 WTCR calendar, new race in France

The new calendar for the 2022 World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) has just been published, following ratification by the members of the FIA World Motor Sport Council. Two new dates appear on the calendar, including a new one in France.

New 2022 WTCR calendar revealed, new race in France

WTCR unveils its updated 2022 calendar, after races in the Czech Republic and Russia were canceled following the Ukraine War – the Czech Republic announced a state of emergency lasting a minimum of 30 days to make all available resources available to people displaced by the Russian invasion.

The World Touring Car Championship will return to Italy, to Vallelunga precisely – north of Rome – for rounds 11 and 12 of the season, on July 23 and 24. For the very first time, the WTCR will also set foot in Alsace, on the Ring of the Rhine, on August 6 and 7. This is the second race on French soil, since the season opener will take place on the Pau-Ville circuit in May.

The remainder of the 2022 WTCR calendar, approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council last November, remains unchanged, although Discovery Sports Events “Continues to monitor travel and quarantine restrictions for events in South Korea, China and Macau due to the COVID-19 pandemic. »

Vallelunga is a well-established venue for touring car racing, while for the Ring of the Rhine we visit Alsace, a region which continues to play a key role in the automobile industry, which is also the location of birth of two of the WTCR's most successful drivers, Yann Ehrlacher and Yvan Muller, who share six world championship titles. »
