The Supercars legend will put his retirement on hold. Jamie Whincup, seven-time Supercars champion, will return to service as co-pilot for the Bathurst 1000, from October 6 to 9. Already a four-time winner of the legendary race at Mount Panorama, the Australian will try to seek a 5th victory alongside Broc Feenay in the Red Bull Ampol Racing.
Whincup left his racing career at the end of the 2021 season to become director of the Triple Eight Race Engineering team. He was then replaced by the young Broc Feenay (19 years old) in the No. 88 car for this season. “J-Dub” will participate in the Bathurst 1000 for the 21st time in his career.

Jamie Whincup will have a dual role to play during the event, in addition to his position as team principal. “With myself behind the wheel of the No. 88, I look forward to working with the guys to tune the cars during the week and, of course, helping each other out in the race wherever possible. (…) I can assure you that the team does not care which Triple Eight car wins the “Great Race”, as long as it is one of ours. »
Also another confirmation: the presence of Craig Lowndes thanks to a wild card, at the wheel of the Supercheap Auto Commodore n°888. The former co-driver of Whincup (from 2019 to 2021) will start the Great Race for the 29th consecutive time, alongside Declan Fraser. The car will have technical support from the Triple Eight team.
