The announcement of his transfer to McLaren from 2023 seems to have done him a lot of good. After his 2nd place at the Detroit Grand Prix seven days ago, Alexander Red (Andretti) distinguished himself on the side of Road America. Building on his previous outings, the Auburn native dominated Fast 6 (last part of qualifying).
With a lap of 1'44"866, Alexander Rossi beat Josef Newgarden (Penske) by less than a tenth (1'44"937). Last member of the Top 3 at Road America, Alex Palou (Chip Ganassi Racing) remained behind the leading duo with a time of 1'45"382 ahead of Marcus Ericsson (Chip Ganassi Racing), Colton Herta (Andretti) and Pato O'Ward (McLaren).
With the French, Romain Grosjean (Andretti) may harbor regrets. The Habs narrowly missed moving on to Fast 6 by grabbing 7th place in the first part of qualifying. simon pagenaud (Meyer Shank Racing) is 11th.
