The International Automobile Federation (FIA) is keeping an eye on things. Actress in the remodeling of promotion formulas since the second half of the 2010s (disappearance of the FIA F3 Europe to rename the GP3 Series to FIA F3 in 2019, drop in points for the Super License concerning the series Renault), the organization has just forced the legendary British F3 to change its name.
From now on, the British competition will be called the GB3 Championship, as announced by former driver Jonathan Palmer, head of the discipline.

« I am extremely saddened by the fact that we are no longer authorized to use the British name F3. Having existed for over half a century, the British F3 title has a huge heritage and the championship has played an important role in the careers of many drivers. F1, including mine. The strength of our championship, however, lies in more than just a name and this will be reflected in its continued success.
I am very excited about the future of a series that has firmly established itself as the premier championship car from the country. The GB3 offers a strong identity and we will continue to offer an extremely attractive package for teams and drivers. GB3 will play a vital role in the careers of many young drivers, and MSV remains firmly committed to providing the fairest and most profitable championship at this level anywhere in the world. »
In other words, the FIA wanted to exclusively reserve the F3 name for the FIA F3 which is found at the opening of the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
