The only driver to opt for Slicks in Q3 to take advantage of the improved weather conditions at Motegi, Hiroki Otsu took pole position for the penultimate round of the Super Formula season on his MUGEN Honda in the colors of Red Bull. Thanks to this bet, the Japanese was more than four seconds ahead of his compatriots Naoki Yamamoto (TCS Nakajima Racing) and Tomoki Nojiri (Team Mugen), the championship leader. For their return to the discipline, Sacha Fenestraz (KONDO Racing) and Tatiana Calderón (ThreeBund DragoCORSE) will start respectively from 17e and 18e place on the rack. The winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Kamui Kobayashi, will start from the back after triggering a red flag when leaving the track at the exit of turn 11 in Q1.
