Trident Motorsport announced on Saturday the arrival of Leonardo Fornaroli in its team for the championship of Formula 3 in 2023. The Italian driver, 18, has signed for a second season with the Trident family after a first campaign in the European Formula Regional championship by Alpine. During the season, the native of Plaisance (Italy) established himself as the rookie of the year with an 8th place in the championship, enough to convince Trident to promote his protégé to F3 next season.

Leonardo Fornaroli made his debut in car in 2020 in the Italian and German Formula 4 championships. In 2021 he achieved a victory, 7 podiums, 2 pole positions and 3 best laps in the same Italian category, where he finished fifth. This season, Fornaroli finished 8th in the FRECA championship thanks to great consistency, without obtaining the slightest podium.

The Trident driver already tested the F3 single-seater last September during the FIA Formula 3 post-season testing at the Andalusia circuit in Jerez and achieved the 8th fastest time. “I am happy to continue my adventure with Trident, after this year's success in Formula Regional with the team, rejoiced Leonardo Fornaroli. I think Trident is the best place to continue growing and learning, and being able to make my Formula 3 debut with them is a great opportunity for me. For these reasons, I would like to thank Maurizio Salvadori and his team for the confidence they have in me. »

“Leonardo Fornaroli is undoubtedly a promising young driver and we are proud to be alongside him for his Formula 3 debut,” said Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager of Trident Motorsport. Leonardo is a competitive driver who is determined to achieve his goals. Trident will be at his side to help him make his debut in one of the most fascinating and competitive categories in motorsport. We are confident that he has what it takes to succeed, and we look forward to starting this new challenge with Leonardo. »
