Five rounds for the JWRC in 2023

For the next vintage of the Junior championship, the decision-makers have chosen to schedule 5 meetings on all the surfaces visited by the WRC calendar. After a strong but meager 2022 edition, we must hope that this category will attract more people in a few months.

Five rounds for the JWRC in 2023

The candidates to succeed Robert Virves now know what to expect. While the young Estonian should make his debut in WRC2 and use the prize won this season, the FIA and its partners have just revealed the program for 2023. The rallies chosen are not very surprising since they stick to the imperatives of this formula. For cost reasons, the 5 races will therefore all be in Europe. In order to test the talent of the drivers, all surfaces will be visited, from Swedish snow to Greek dirt to Croatian asphalt. For the 2e consecutive year, the Ford Fiesta Rally3 will be used and the final meeting will grant a double allocation of points which allows the JWRC to remain interesting until the end. If it is true that the Ford Fiesta Rally2 and the Pirelli tires that are involved represent a very nice “carrot”, it should also be said that this has only had very relative success in 2022. With only 6 pilots engaged, it is difficult to speak of a plebiscite. The progress of such a “sector” also leaves doubtful as the last Junior champions have not recorded any convincing results once this line is included in their list of achievements. We must therefore hope that the ranks will be filled in 2023 and that Virves will show that this training has been useful to him.
