Rosberg now has a 33-point lead in the championship over Hamilton heading into the final four rounds of the 2016 championship.
Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) finished 4th ahead of his teammate Kimi Räikkönen. Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) took 6th place ahead of the Force India of Sergio Pérez and Nico Hülkenberg. The Williams of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas complete the top 10. The Haas of Grosjean fails to score points.
Nico Rosberg wins the 2016 Japanese Grand Prix, his 23rd victory in the discipline. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) finished 2nd ahead of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). This cumulative result for the W07 Hybrid offers a third consecutive Manufacturers' title for the brand with the star.
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) shoots straight at the chicane after attempting an attack on Verstappen, who shifted at the last moment. Second place is now out of reach.
Rosberg begins the last three laps with a 5″8 lead over Verstappen who remains second ahead of Hamilton who remains nestled in the wake of the Dutchman's RB12 less than a second away.
Palmer is close to leaving in the gravel trap at the hairpin just as the Verstappen – Hamilton duo returned to the Renault RS16. The two opponents can finally pass the Briton and continue their duel, even if Hamilton does not seem able to attack the Red Bull.
Less than a second difference between Verstappen (Red Bull) and Hamilton (Mercedes) with just over six laps to go.

45th lap: Verstappen (Red Bull) only has a one-second lead over Hamilton (Mercedes). The outcome seems inevitable for the RB12 driver.
Ten laps still to be covered at Suzuka. Rosberg (Mercedes) remains leader with 5″3. Verstappen (Red Bull) still has a 2″1 lead over Hamilton (Mercedes) who continues his climb towards second place. Vettel (Ferrari) let go against Hamilton, and is more than 3″ behind the #07 W44 Hybrid.

3″1 gap now between Verstappen (Red Bull) and Hamilton (Mercedes). The Dutchman's tires are five laps longer than the Briton's.
40th round in Japan out of the 53 on the program, and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) remains a solid leader ahead of Max Verstappen (Red Bull). The Dutchman remains under threat from Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) who regained more than 1″ during the last pass on the No. 12 RB33. Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) remains 4th, 1″5 behind Hamilton.
Vettel maintains the gap below second against Hamilton but cannot attack Hamilton's Mercedes.
Vettel (Ferrari) closed in on Hamilton's Mercedes at the chicane, but could not attack the No. 07 W44 Hybrid, which escaped on the pit straight.
Barely eight tenths separate Hamilton (Mercedes) 3rd and Vettel (Ferrari) 4th.
