The duel between Elfyn Evans (Toyota) and Ott Tänak (Hyundai) turns in favor of the Welshman at the end of the Friday morning specials at the 2020 Rally Sweden. The Toyota Yaris took advantage of a poor performance from the Hyundai i20 Coupe to take a slight lead in the general classification.
The Estonian even gives the position of direct pursuer to the rookie Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota), still as efficient and regular as a bonus. Behind, the ranks are frozen, with Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) at the foot of the podium and Thierry Neuville under threat from his teammate Craig Breen.
This special was marked by new problems for veteran Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota). The Finn lost 1'26" due to a mechanical problem, and found himself far away from his WRC colleagues.
SS4 ranking:
General classification after SS4:
Due to a mechanical problem, Jari-Matti Latvala lost almost 1 minute 30!
In the general classification, Elfyn Evans can finally breathe, with 7″9 ahead of Kalle Rovanperä, who overtakes Ott Tänak by 8 tenths!
Bad luck for Ott Tänak! He lost 8″5 on Elfyn Evans and achieved the same time as Esapekka Lappi.
The setbacks continue for Jari-Matti Latvala. The Finn reports “strange behavior” from his Toyota Yaris.
Ott Tänak suffered a slight blow. The Estonian lost 4″2 to Elfyn Evans in the second intermediate.
Teemu Suninen is now 30″ behind in the general classification after the morning stages.
Another nice time from Kalle Rovanperä. The young driver set the second time, 2″6 behind Elfyn Evans, but well ahead of Sébastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville.
Esapekka Lappi confirms his renewed energy with the third provisional time, between Sébastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville (+8″5).
What time ! Elfyn Evans distanced Thierry Neuville by 10″ on this special and Sébastien Ogier by 8″2!
Sébastien Ogier finished 1″9 ahead of Thierry Neuville.
Despite the time lost by Thierry Neuville, the curve speeds are high in Sweden:

We meet again for the last special stage of the morning, called Nyckelvattnet (18,94 km)!
