Stage 1 of Wales Rally GB will end with the 16,95km Penmachno. It was obviously Tänak who took the scratch in the first pass with a time of 10'15″9.

Ott Tänak (Toyota) dealt another blow to his opponents by claiming his 5th scratch of the day at Wales Rally GB. The leader of the event completed the 29,13km of Brenig in 16'30''5, 6 seconds ahead of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and 7''2 over Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport). Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) followed at 8 seconds. Behind, the gap is greater with Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) at 16s, the Finn having been the victim of a brief outing damaging his windshield. Craig Breen (Citroën) was at the same pace and ranked ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai), Mads Ostberg (Citroën), Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) and Hayden Paddon (Hyundai).

Ott Tänak now has a lead of more than 31 seconds over Thierry Neuville who took 2nd place for just over a second ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala. Esapekka Lappi follows 3s ahead of Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) who is ahead of Craig Breen. Teemu Suninen lost 4 positions and found himself 7th ahead of Mads Ostberg, Hayden Paddon and Andreas Mikkelsen.

Breen still did a little better with 16s behind Tänak. The Citroën driver remains 6th with 1 second ahead of Suninen. “I tried to do my best. Those in front are untouchable at this point. »

Paddon is the slowest at the finish with 22 seconds behind the provisional scratch, a similar time to his teammate Mikkelsen. The New Zealander is fighting for 8th place with Ostberg.

Andolfi is stopped in the special. The Italian in a Skoda Fabia R5 occupied 7th place in WRC 2.

Mikkelsen's struggle continues with a delay of 21 seconds on Tänak. The Hyundai driver seems a little alone in 10th row. “The adjustments made are useful but I still made a few mistakes. I had trouble holding the front and had to use the handbrake quite a bit. We still need to refine the settings. »

Latvala lost a lot of time by finishing 16s behind his teammate Tänak. The Toyota driver finds himself behind Neuville in the general classification, 1″6 behind. “It was not a good SS. Neuville sets off in the 29,13km of Brenig, the longest special of the event. Tänak was the fastest there this morning in 16'52″4.
