Sébastien Loeb (Hyundai) was closest to Ott Tänak's scratch in the 9th special of the Rally Chile. By finishing 2 tenths behind the time of 10'08''9 achieved by the Estonian at the end of the 16,59km of Pelun, the nine-time WRC champion took more than 3 seconds from Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota). Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) gave up almost 4 seconds to the leader of the event by preceding Elfyn Evans (M-Sport), Esapekka Lappi (Citroën), Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) and Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai).

Ott Tänak finishes the first pass of the day with a lead of more than 34 seconds over Sébastien Ogier. Jari-Matti Latvala remains on the provisional podium with a one second lead over Sébastien Loeb. Elfyn Evans remains 5th ahead of Teemu Suninen who is ahead of Esapekka Lappi by a dozen seconds. Andreas Mikkelsen is still in 8th place.
