Bottas (Mercedes) set the best lap of the circuit in 1'02"939, more than a tenth ahead of his teammate Hamilton. This is almost a tenth ahead of the previous record established last year by Leclerc (Ferrari).

The results of Q2 of the Austrian GP:
Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) failed to qualify for the final qualifying session of the Austrian GP. The four-time world champion failed by more than a tenth of his teammate Charles Leclerc who is the last to qualify for Q3. The Ferraris preceded the AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat. Esteban Ocon (Renault) and Romain Grosjean (Haas) completed the ranking.
The Mercedes were the fastest in Q2. Valtteri Bottas set the reference time in 1'03''015, 8 hundredths ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Alexander Albon (Red Bull) was the closest, 7 tenths behind. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was the only one to qualify with the medium tires while the rest of the grid selected the soft compounds.
Vettel is the first eliminated from Q2, more than a tenth behind his teammate Leclerc. Gasly (AlphaTauri) follows in 12th place ahead of his teammate Kvyat. Ocon (Renault) and Grosjean (Haas) complete the list.
