At the end of the second part of qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) set the best time in 1'20″210 despite a potentially faster lap with two errors from the Briton in his attempt.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) fails by 85 thousandths in second position and precedes Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) by 5 thousandths.

Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso), Nico Hülkenberg (Renault), Romain Grosjean (Haas), author of an error on his last lap in the last sector, and Pascal Wehrlein (Sauber) are eliminated.
