Vettel (Ferrari) is still inserted between the two Mercedes, 51 thousandths from Lewis Hamilton's pole. Räikkönen finished fourth behind Valtteri Bottas. Verstappen and Ricciardo (Red Bull) will share the third row ahead of Alonso (McLaren) and Pérez (Force India). Massa (Williams) and Ocon (Force India) complete the top 10.

Bottas improves but remains behind Hamilton who does not improve his first reference.

Alonso (McLaren) signs the 7th provisional time ahead of Esteban Ocon (Force India).

Räikkönen is the last on track of the leading quartet of the session.

Bottas rushes ahead of Hamilton for the second attempts.

The Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo failed 0″618 and 1″116 behind Hamilton. Ocon and Pérez (Force India), Alonso (McLaren) and Massa (Williams) will only make one attempt.

But it is Hamilton (Mercedes) who with an excellent last sector signs the best provisional time in 1'19″149, 241 thousandths ahead of Bottas, author of an error at the exit of the last chicane. Räikkönen failed at 0″290, when Vettel was more than half a second behind.

Another good performance from Esteban Ocon (Force India), 7th in Q2.

At the end of the second part of qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) set the best time in 1'20″210 despite a potentially faster lap with two errors from the Briton in his attempt.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) fails by 85 thousandths in second position and precedes Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) by 5 thousandths.

Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso), Nico Hülkenberg (Renault), Romain Grosjean (Haas), author of an error on his last lap in the last sector, and Pascal Wehrlein (Sauber) are eliminated.
