For his 2e year in IndyCar, Romain Grosjean experienced an up and down 2022 campaign. Having moved from Dale Coyne Racing to Andretti, the Frenchman had great ambitions before the season kicked off in St. Petersburg (Florida). Despite a good start with a 5e place on the Florida route before a 2e position in the streets of Long Beach (California) a month later, the Habs' exercise was ultimately more complicated than expected between poor performances and incidents which earned it criticism in the Americas.
It was therefore in style that Romain Grosjean wanted to lower the curtain at Laguna Seca this Sunday where the final took place. After a nice 4e place in qualifying, the Andretti driver has long claimed a place on the podium but the facts of the race did not play in his favor, ultimately settling for 7e position, returning to the Top 10 for the first time since Iowa last July.
« The yellow flag halfway through the race didn't help us because I still had 5 laps to complete on the hard tires to keep the last stint as short as possible, he regretted at the microphone of NBC Sports.
After my result last year (3e), I was aiming for at least the same result at the finish by overtaking cars on the track. Finally, the soft tires did not hold up as much as the previous year. The most important thing is that I felt very good in the car all weekend and I can drive it cleanly. That's what mattered most. We were able to pay more attention to the tires than the others. »

With the 2022 season definitively over, Romain Grosjean is already looking towards the next campaign where this time he hopes to be at the forefront from the start. For this, a lot of work will be done in depth with his team so that the 36-year-old driver is finally a contender for the title.
« I can't wait for 2023, he salivates. I now have a package that I appreciate on road, urban and even ovals. We will work a lot with Olivier Boisson (his engineer) during winter. We have clearly defined what I like and what I don't like. It was hard to find what I wanted from the car."
