Thursday May 20 will forever be remembered by Theo Pourchaire. Starting in the first qualifying group, the ART Grand Prix driver was not bothered by the track which was supposed to put him at a disadvantage compared to the 2nd group and slammed the best time of the session to everyone's surprise.
« I disconnected my brain during my three laps, he admitted to the press. I wasn't very happy with my testing this morning and I wanted to start at the front of the grid so I pushed the car to its limits and it worked. I am very happy ».

A very good performance for the Frenchman, especially since he only discovered the circuit this Thursday morning and only had 45 minutes to get his bearings. “ I was 14th in practice, I wasn't very confident and I had a lot of traffic on track, continues Théo Pourchaire. In qualifying, I simply wanted to do my best while enjoying it because you don't drive every day in Monaco. It was fantastic and in the end I took pole, I'm very happy ».
Although not very experienced, due to being a rookie, the native of Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes was present on the track and beat some big names and even repeaters like Robert Shwartzman (Prema).

« I think this is the best ride of my life, reacts the youngest pole sitter in F2 history. That means something. It's good. It's not easy being the youngest. I lack experience each time but being on pole on my 4th weekend, in Monaco, is strong ».
