This year, mechanical problems at Ferrari often rhymes with a podium result for Mercedes. In Austria, Lewis Hamilton once again gained the upper hand over his teammate by signing a third top 3 in a row after Canada and Silverstone. To obtain this result, the Briton came a long way. His accident in qualifying forced his mechanics to work for 6 hours on his car. Starting from 8th place on the starting grid this Sunday, Lewis Hamilton managed to climb the ranks until the explosion of the engine Carlos Sainz offers him a place on the podium.

The virtual safety car also allowed George Russell to overtake Esteban Ocon to take 4th place. Mercedes achieves the best performance as a team. A result that the seven-time world champion was keen to highlight. “ What an incredible crowd we had this weekend. I really didn't expect that (3rd place), but of course yesterday was a bit difficult. It was a bit of a tough weekend but I'm really grateful as a team to get 3rd and 4th, those are good points and we'll move forward from there “, explains Lewis Hamilton.

Mercedes took another step forward for Hamilton

If it was he who managed to take his W13 into the top 3, the Briton is aware that he would never have been able to do it without the work of his team. “ I first want to say a big thank you to the guys, the men and women in the garage who worked so hard to rebuild the car. I had a brand new car on Saturday morning. Fortunately, this is something I don't do often. I'm very grateful to them for working so hard and we made some improvements this weekend, so we just have to keep working », Enthuses Lewis Hamilton. Next step now for Mercedes in France on the Castellet circuit with why not a 4th podium in a row for the new “ Mr Consistency » at Mercedes.
