Although they were able to resume after the 15 p.m. storm this Friday, June 4, the practice and qualifying sessions for the Spa Euro Race were finally stopped. Indeed, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit was flooded at the level of the stands on the descent towards Eau Rouge.

This flooding is due to an overflow of the Rohon, a tributary of the Eau Rouge, explains management. “ The Spa-Francorchamps Circuit being geographically located in a basin, it has therefore suffered the accumulation of surrounding water flows ».

Lifted by the force of the water, the track “ is currently being renovated. Damage was also noted around the runway area, requiring in-depth cleaning. Indeed, the torrent that fell on the Circuit carried with it cubic meters of various waste, reads the statement.

The riprap in certain places of the Circuit was also affected, given the torrents which fell, in particular around the Eau Rouge sluice, on the side of the exit of the 24h pitlane, the embankment of which will be reinforced ».

Lodges, cellars as well as the Ster, Eau Rouge and Blanchimont tunnels were also damaged after the bad weather.

As a result, on-track activities will not resume before June 8, management indicated.
