Since the announcement made by Max Mosley concerning the non-renewal of his mandate at the head of the FIA, rumors have been rife. Director, successfully, of the Team Ferrari for more than a decade, Jean Todt pleases many observers. And in particular to Max Mosley, current president of the FIA, who could suggest a name at the end of his presidency. He also admitted that he did not rule out the Frenchman submitting his candidacy.
But FOTA does not want to see this hypothesis materialize. The current presidents of the teams prefer, in fact, to see a candidate arrive who is independent from the world of racing. Formula 1. John Howett (Toyota) confirmed that it would be “ better to have an independent president, a character who is not linked to the championship teams » of Formula 1. The Jean Todt hypothesis will therefore have difficulty achieving unanimity in the paddocks. Ferrari, which already has strong links with the FIA, could be suspected of being favored under a Todt presidency. It is therefore towards a “smoother” candidate with a less rich past that preferences are now moving.
