Rumors have been rife since the end of the summer: Audi is thinking of backpedaling and no longer committing as a racing team. Formula 1 in 2026. The German manufacturer has not communicated on its rumors, fueled by the silence of the brand at the Rings this fall.
A strategy that hid nothing worrying according to the Presiding Managing Director of Audi AG, Gernot Döllner. He took office in September 2023 following Markus Duesmann; it was the latter who pressed the green button to launch the F1 team project, in August 2022.

It is only for a few weeks that Gernot Döllner has been able to speak on the F1 subject, once after having respected a media reserve deadline of 100 days following his promotion. “The board of directors, supervisory boards of Audi and Volkswagen have clearly decided that Audi will participate in Formula 1 in 2026”, he declared this December 14 to German newspaper Handelsblatt. “The plan to arrive in F1 in 2026 is still relevant. »
A little further on, Gernot Dollner explains that the decision pyramid has been simplified in order to improve the functioning of the F1 project. “We had a very complex commission landscape. This is why we removed an entire level of committees below the board of directors. In short: we are now faster and important decisions are once again made by the entire board team. »
Audi must enter F1 by taking over the Sauber team, which was associated with Alfa Romeo and between 2018 2023.
