We had left a Max Verstappen not smiling in Brazil after suffering during the weekend, being penalized or even refusing a team order. It was therefore in a strange atmosphere that he arrived in Abu Dhabi for the last Grand Prix of the season.
The questions about the team instructions with his teammate Sergio Pérez were quickly answered and above all put aside, Max Verstappen was able to concentrate on the track, what he likes the most. But for once, the double world champion started his sporting program a bit later since it was Liam Lawson who took possession of his car during FP1.
Nothing too worrying for the Batavian who took back control of his mount and with authority by setting the best time in EL2 at the end of the day in the Emirates. “ Everything went well to be honest, advanced Max Verstappen. The car ran in the correct window. Liam did a really good job during the first few tests, he was calm and consistent, everything we wanted. During FP2 we tried different things and I felt good with the car during the long stints, it was working really well. I'm pretty happy."
Damaged in Brazil, Max Verstappen seems well on his way to reversing the trend in Abu Dhabi where his objective is to achieve a 15e victory this season, or to help Sergio Pérez so that he secures 2nd place in the championship.
