Despite a better time during the second free practice session, Max Verstappen hit the wall at the very end of the day. Nothing to disturb the Dutchman.

Max Verstappen alternated between the good and the less good during this Friday day at Spa-Francorchamps. The Dutchman certainly set the best time in EL2 but above all he put his Red Bull into the wall at the very end of the session. The damage is rather visible on its car with a broken right rear suspension.

“I don’t really know what happened., admits Verstappen. I just lost the rear. I had too much oversteer and I made a mistake, hitting the wall. Before that, the car was handling really well. The day was good for us. It’s good to start the weekend like this.”

Big unknown of this Belgian weekend: the weather. During the two sessions of the day, rain showed up. Intermediate tires were fitted to the single-seaters. A data which risks playing its role during the day of Saturday and Sunday.

“I didn't change much on my car with the wind, explains the Dutchman. We have to see what the weather will bring tomorrow but we are confident with our level of performance.”

Max Verstappen will be keen to make up for it tomorrow during the third and final free practice session on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. As a reminder, the Dutchman is 8 points behind Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' ranking before the Belgian round.
