The “Halo” concept is favored by the FIA

In order to increase the protection of single-seater cockpits, the FIA has confirmed the implementation of solutions from the 2017 season.

Following the dramatic accidents of Jules Bianchi and Justin Wilson, the FIA indicated its intention to provide rapid solutions to increase protection in the cockpit of single-seaters.

If in 2016, the side partitions were raised by 20 mm and can withstand a crushing force of 50kN (15 more than before), without authorized deformation, 2017 should see more radical solutions appear.

Le “Halo” concept is for the moment the concept which is attracting the most attention within the FIA, which indicated following the meetings of the authorities of the discipline yesterday in Geneva that other options, such as transparent protections would still be studied.

Our guide F1 2016 is already available in digital version and will be on newsstands tomorrow.
