The first quarter of the Nürburgring 24 Hours race was largely dominated by the Porsche 911 GT3 R n°911 of Team Manthey started from pole. Earl Bamber takes the lead after more than six hours, ahead of the leader by a handful of seconds. Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°4 of Team Black Falcon entrusted to Adam Christodoulou.
Another Mercedes completes the top three with the #47 from Team Mann Filter with Edoardo Mortara ahead of the #6 Rowe Racing BMW M98 driven by John Edwards. Nicki Thiim completes the Top 5 at the wheel of theAston Martin Vantage #7.
The event was marked by the accident of Dries Vanthoor in the No. 8 Audi R8 LMS. The Belgian emerged from his car unscathed after losing control, just after contact with a competitor. The Team WRT resident made a reflex maneuver by avoiding a stopped car which could have had serious consequences.
The HTP Motorsport team had a difficult start to the race as its #48 Mercedes quickly found itself three laps behind the leaders after Renger van der Zande went off the track.
