Melbourne – Feeney regains control in Race 3

This third race held on the Albert Park circuit was a little more hectic than the previous ones. 14 laps were on the program for this 5th round of the Supercars season. Tempers therefore got a little heated between the drivers. The first two laps were dominated by the occupants of the first row, pole sitter Matt Payne (Whole grained Racing) and Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing).

At the green lights it is the Monster Energy driver who takes over the Grove Racing Mustang. In their wake, the Triple Engineering drivers are already in a waiting position. In the top 5, we find for the first time an Erebus Motorsport car in serious pain since the departure of Brown and Brodie Kostecki. Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United) will chase Jack Le Brocq (Erebus) out of the top 5 after completing a few meters door to door.

In the second round, Matt Payne found the opening on Waters who tried to regain his position. We are in the last turns of the second lap, the two men touch each other twice and Feeney comes to join the battle. Alas, Waters and Payne will both end up in the wall after one extra contact and too many. Feeney wasn't asking for that much to take control of the race ahead of Brown and Mostert!

The safety car appears to evacuate the cars damaged in this incident. The race is restarted at the halfway point. David Reynolds (Team 18) tries to reproduce the good result of his teammate Winterbottom during the race the day before. He puts enormous pressure on Mostert who gives himself a big scare by putting two wheels in the grass at high speed. At the front, the two Triple Eight drivers are distancing themselves from the rest of the troop.

At the end of the race, Mostert came back strongly on Brown, but the white Mustang could not find an opening on the championship leader. The fight in the last lap of the race was superb between the two men. Broc Feeney wins his 3rd race of the season and gets back on Brown who retains the Supercars lead by 3 tiny little points. The season promises to be superb between the two Triple Eight drivers.

The last race will take place next night (00.25 French time) with Chaz Mostert in pole position.
