A new competitor and a new car will join World RX next season. A welcome arrival as the world championship of rallycross has suffered in media and sporting terms in recent years – even more so with the fire which affected the stable Special One Racing at Lydden Hill last July. The ESmotorsport team will make its appearance in WRX to fill out the meager 2024 field a little more.
The Lithuanian team even arrives with a new car: the Skoda Fabia RX1e. The latter was presented this Tuesday “naked” with its carbon bodywork. ESmotorsport is no stranger to the international rallycross scene, having already run the cars of Reinis Nitišs, Kevin Abbring and Rokas Baciuška in World RX. In 2021, Andreas Bakkerud won the Euro RX1 title with the Baltic outfit.
A long-awaited arrival for World RX
Having initially targeted promotion to the highest level of World RX in 2022, ESmotorsport is now set to join the grid next year with its Fabia RX1e newly built by Blue Engineering with support from Oreca and Reiger engineers.
“Motorsport is increasingly focused on sustainability – this is the new reality, and we must prepare for the future, said team owner Ernestas Staponkus, himself a former driver. It's been a big project, but the Fabia RX1e is finished and ready to race. It has been built to the highest standards and will be competitive in the upcoming World RX season. We are now looking for a driver who can fight for the best places and achieve great results with us in the world championship. » The name of the driver(s) has not yet been announced by ESmotorsport.
