After the arrivals of Turkey (2003), Bulgaria (2010) and the return of Poland (2009), the WRC could continue its expansion towards the East, via a contested round in the Balkans.
Croatia would indeed be in the running to join the WRC, with the stated support of the government such as Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, or the Secretary of State for Sports, Janica Kostelic, four times Olympic ski champion.
The country, as reported by the official website of the discipline, received a visit from world championship and FIA officials, including Oliver Celsa, director of WRC Promoter. The Poreč region could host a mixed surface event.
