Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) could have lost big in the second stage of Wales Rally GB. The championship leader was in 2nd place when he made a mistake on SS11, finding himself stuck in a ditch. Despite the help of spectators, the Belgian lost around 50 seconds and has since found himself stuck in 9th place behind his teammates Hayden Paddon and Andreas Mikkelsen.
Conversely, Ott Tänak (Toyota) did not make the slightest misstep. The Estonian, who can obtain a 4th consecutive victory this weekend, has a 48-second lead before the second pass.
Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) is now the Wales Rally GB leader's closest rival. The five-time champion WRC is in the fight with the Yaris WRC of Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi who are only a few tenths behind his Fiesta WRC.
Craig Breen (Citroën) also has a say since the Irishman completes the Top 5 less than 8 seconds from 2nd place. He leads his teammate Mads Ostberg by a dozen seconds.
Kalle Rovanperä (Skoda) continues to dominate WRC 2 with a one-minute lead over Pontus Tidemand (Skoda). Gus Greensmith (Ford) still completes the provisional podium in the category.
The second pass of stage two of Wales Rally GB is scheduled to begin from 15:52 p.m. The crews will not receive assistance until the end of the day.
