Sébastien Ogier (Ford) retains the lead Rally of Portugal after having notably signed the scratch in Cabeceiras (SS14). 19''5 ahead at midday, the pilot M-Sport saw his lead reduced to 16”5 against Thierry Neuville who worked to be the fastest in the other two courses.
Dani Sordo (Hyundai) still completes the provisional podium, but the Spaniard was unable to keep up with the pace of the leaders and is now more than half a minute behind his teammate.
Ott Tänak (Ford) managed to regain 4th place for less than 3 seconds ahead of Craig Breen (Citroën) after making a mistake in the first pass. Elfyn Evans (Ford) follows in 6th place after taking advantage of the mechanical problems of Juho Hänninen (Toyota) dropped back to 7th position.
Mads Ostberg (Ford), Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) and Andreas Mikkelsen (Skoda) complete the top ten after also taking advantage of a blunder by Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) who damaged his Yaris WRC by hitting a wall in the last special of the stage.
If Andreas Mikkelsen dominates WRC 2, the fight for second place continues between Pontus Tidemand (Skoda) and Teemu Suninen (Ford) who both lost several minutes in SS17 due to a puncture. The Swede has the advantage of 19 seconds over the Finn.
The final stage will begin this Sunday, May 21 from 10:08 a.m. (Paris time) with the famous Fafe special.
