The African curse continues for Hyundai on the Safari Rally

The curse that befalls the South Korean manufacturer every year at the Safari Rally has struck again. After three very complicated editions, Cyril Abiteboul's men once again experienced a very eventful trip... from which Thierry Neuville emerged as the big beneficiary.

Maybe instead of recruiting talented engineers, Cyril Abiteboul better hire a marabout who knows how to thwart the bad spells that strike Hyundai every year in Kenya. It is in fact not yet this season that an i20 will climb to the top of the podium. The beginning of rally had nevertheless been promising.

Everything started well. On the almost red dirt of the Kasarani super-special, Thierry Neuville et Ott Tänak signed the double at the head of the race. Then, the Estonian and Esapekka Lappi managed to stay in ambush from the leader Kalle Rovanperä before the latter escaped. Both i20s were less than 17'' behind when it all started going sideways.
