FIA confirms WRC Academy

La WRC Academy aims to train young drivers to reach the highest level in the world. In 2012, it will take place over six rounds as part of the WRC, on gravel in Portugal, Greece and Finland, as well as on asphalt in Germany, France and Spain. To be allowed to enter, a driver must be born after November 14, 1986 and not have been a "priority" driver in the WRC for more than seven rallies before January 1, 2012. Competitors compete at the wheel of Ford Fiest R2 prepared and followed in the base of M-Sport Poland. Sole manufacturer, Pirelli supplies the tires. As a reward, the winner will have the choice between competing in five races in a Fiesta S2000 in the WRC in 2013, or the entire campaign in a Fiesta R2.

Michèle Mouton, WRC manager, welcomes the renewal of this category. “ The 2011 WRC Academy season was a great success and offered us very close competition until the final stages. We are pleased to have renewed our agreement with M-Sport, once again ensuring that this “arrive and drive” formula can continue at an affordable price. We have confidence in Malcolm Wilson who is at the heart of this search for future talents “, she confided.
