If ultra-soft tires are favored in Monaco, Pirelli is considering an aggressive strategy which could be implemented by certain teams in qualifying.
“Some drivers could operate differently by choosing super soft tires for Q2. This bet could pay off if a safety car arrived quickly,” commented Mario Isola, director of Pirelli Motorsport.
Drivers are obliged to start with the set of tires they used to set their best time in qualifying. A break in the race would allow them to move directly to the ultra-soft tires which would have the resistance necessary to cover the entire Monaco Grand Prix.
