Monte-Carlo-SS3: Tänak puts on the rubber

Ott Tänak (Toyota) took the scratch in the 26,72km of Vitrolles-Oze which launches the second stage at Rally Monte Carlo. With a time of 16'32''3, the Estonian took back almost four seconds from Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) in a special stage contested largely on dry roads. Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) followed just over five seconds behind. Dani Sordo (Hyundai) finished 8”3 back but took back around 13s from his teammate Andreas Mikkelsen who missed a turn.

Craig Breen (Citroën) lost around a minute after losing his brakes in the special following a collision with a stone. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) still lost tens of seconds in handfuls following a puncture.

Sébastien Ogier retains the lead of the Monte-Carlo Rally with half a minute ahead of Dani Sordo who took second place almost five seconds ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen. The Norwegian is now under threat from Ott Tänak who has moved up to fourth place, 3''6 off the provisional podium. The Estonian is ahead of his teammate Esapekka Lappi by more than 11 seconds. Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) follows about twelve seconds behind. Craig Breen remains seventh but is now almost a minute behind third Yaris WRC. Bryan Bouffier remains eighth with 16s ahead of Kris Meeke (Citroën).
