Cassidy crowned in Super Formula at Suzuka

Nick Cassidy (Tom's) won the Super Formula title on Sunday October 27 on the Suzuka circuit (Japan) at the end of a race full of suspense. The New Zealander, second in the general classification before the start, overtook Naoki Yamamoto thanks to a second position.

“I don't know what to say, I won all the Japanese categories with the Tom's team, explains the 25-year-old driver, winner in Formula 3 Japan in 2015 and Super GT in 2017. There are so many good drivers in this championship, it's difficult to be at the top all the time. »

Nick Cassidy becomes the first non-Japanese driver to win the title since German Andre Lotterer in 2011. His career in Europe ended after a campaign in Formula 3 Europe finishing fourth in 2016 with Prema.

The race was won by Nippon Tomoki Nojiri. Starting in pole position, title contender Alex Palou only finished 19th after making two pit stops (compared to one for the other competitors).

Naoki Yamamoto finished fifth and Kamui Kobayashi misses the points (12th). Finally, the rookie and protégé of Red Bull Junior Team Jüri Vips reaches the finish line at the end of the classification.
