Andros: Prost takes back control

Alain Prost (Dacia Duster), winner of the second race in Val Thorens, arrived in Andorra with 60 kg of ballast, which only allowed him to take fifth place in the first race of the weekend. Relieved of his ballast on Saturday evening, the four-time World Champion Formula 1 was able to attack, despite a very unfavorable position in the starting order.

The mild temperatures prevailing in Andorra have indeed led to a melting of the ice layer on the track. As the cars passed, the latter gradually became smaller and Alain Prost, who started last, had to deal with a circuit with numerous areas of bitumen.

Despite these difficult conditions, the Dacia driver was able to climb to fourth place in the first qualifying round of the second race in Andorra. “We opted for fairly used tires for this round, because we knew that given the evolution of the track and our starting order, we could not hope for much during this first round. If we look at the last drivers to set off, I achieved by far the best time, proof of the efficiency of the Dacia Duster,” explains Alain Prost.

The latter then bet everything on the second qualifying round, achieving the second fastest time. Slower than Jean-Luc Pailler (BMW Series 1), second in the first round, the former F1 driver took third place in the scratch ranking. “We played with our settings to calm the car because between the holes and the tarmac, all the cars move a lot and it is easy to make a mistake, as we saw several times today. Difficult to do much better with these parameters, we are fully satisfied with this result which was not at all easy to achieve. »

Fourth in his final, Alain Prost was able to leave Andorra satisfied, taking back control of the general classification from Jean-Philippe Dayraut, his toughest opponent at the moment. “We are having a good operation this weekend. Our main opponents are behind us today, so we are taking valuable points from them and we will only take twenty kilos of ballast to Alpe d?Huez, which is acceptable. The battle is well and truly launched, everyone's strategy will have an important role in the outcome of this season. »
