Carlos Tavarès “worried” about the future of Rallycross

The one-year delay chosen by IMG to launch the E-WRX has cast doubt on the future of the Rallycross on the world stage. Promoters had no choice but to postpone the debut of electric until 2021 in the face of a lack of committed manufacturers. Alone Peugeot and Volkswagen had responded to the call and the Lion now seems ready to backtrack if the World Championship fails to fill its entries.

Carlos Tavarès, the chairman of the board of the PSA Group, returned to Peugeot's hesitations to enter the E-WRX in this context.

“We like fighting, it's in our DNA, we don't always win but we hang on and we end up winning. We are therefore worried to the extent that we do not want to end up with a championship comprising only one or two manufacturers”, confided the big boss of the Peugeot-Citroën-Opel group to AUTOhebdo.

Peugeot is in any case not cooled by the regulation envisaged with a common chassis produced by Oreca on which each manufacturer will install its bodywork and running gear.

“The common elements are not prohibitive. For example, it would be interesting to open up certain areas of development in stages, but the main thing is above all to be able to transfer this technology used in competition to production vehicles., added the president of PSA.
