Castera announces the color for the Dakar 2020: “Dunes as far as the eye can see”
In the boxes for several months, the move of the Dakar to Saudi Arabia will become a reality during the 2020 edition. The most famous of rally-raids will set down its suitcases in the Middle East as we announced to you in issue n°2209CARweekly.

David Castera, the new director of the event replacing Étienne Lavigne since winter 2019, spoke to France TV Sport regarding this change of location. « The Dakar is a nomad. The primary idea of the Dakar is discovery, it is adventure. We had two acts: Africa (between 1979 and 2007. Editor’s note) and South America (from 2009 to 2019. Editor’s note).
Today we're going to write act three, in the Middle East. The opportunity to discover a new desert is extraordinary. Discovering new places was everyone’s expectation”, explains the former biker.

According to the Béarnais, enthusiasts can be reassured about the quality of the course. “I saw dunes as far as the eye could see. There are almost too many. Then, we will follow the Red Sea with more mountains and rocks. There are also many valleys. I believe there is a huge opportunity to play on navigation. It will be a real rally-raid with a complete tour of Saudi Arabia. All the ingredients are there.
There is nothing to worry about. It's a country 4x larger than France and almost desert, we will be able to spend a lot of time there. Neighboring states may be added little by little. We have an entire Middle East opening up to us”he completes.
