Chip Ganassi Racing joins Extreme E

The list of achievements is as long as an arm. IndyCar, Indianapolis 500, Nascar, Daytona 500, 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Le Mans (in GTE Pro). Wherever the Chip Ganassi Racing entered, the cars operated by the American entity won.

Chip Ganassi's next challenge will be called Extreme E, the team having confirmed its presence in the series featuring 100% electric SUVs from 2021, a first in the field of alternative energies for training across the Atlantic.

“Extreme E is a very different discipline to anything we've done before, but I think motor racing is looking to the future, comments Chip Ganassi.

When I started the team in 1990, one of the founding principles was innovation. I've always been passionate about pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and the Extreme E checks that box for us in a big way.

This represents an opportunity in motor racing to use the latest technologies to attract a new, younger audience to this great sport of ours. Everything about the Extreme E is cool, from the car to the racing format and the technology built into it.

We are excited to join the championship and play a role in developing the future of our sport. »

“Ganassi has a tremendous heritage in motorsport, with consistent success over three decades in some of the most challenging open-wheel and sports car series, admits Alejandro Agag, director of Extreme E.

Of course, our championship poses a very different type of challenge, but the team has proven to be victorious in every discipline it has competed in and clearly has the skills to similarly excel in Extreme E. »

Ganassi will notably join Andretti Autosport, already confirmed for the championship. The difference is that Michael Andretti's training has solid experience in electrical events, with his association with BMW in Formula E.
