In its quest for notoriety on a global scale before its major commercial offensive which is approaching, Alpine unveils the A110 Pikes Peak which will take on the dizzying slopes of the most famous hill climb on June 25.

The approach is purely passionate, recreational and driven by marketing. So we should not expect the French manufacturer and its A110 GT4 Evo stuffed with steroids to beat the absolute record for the legendary 19,93 km climb to the clouds. This metamorphosis is the result of collaboration between the teams of the design office ofAlpine, guided by Raphaël Linari, and Signatech led by Lionel Chevalier (technical director) and François Letort (project manager).

Upon examination, we discover oversized splitters and deflectors on the ends of the shield, without forgetting the rear wing split into two parts and intended to generate downforce in the 156 turns despite the loss of atmospheric pressure, and therefore of the deportation, as the ascent progresses.

The radical work continues at the level of the side skirts and the diffuser, while an air intake inlet appears on the roof to feed the 1.6 liter turbo engine increased to almost 500 horsepower for this short exercise. Power delivered to the rear wheels alone... a relatively stress-free mission, because with altitude and the depletion of oxygen, this value will drop by around 45% at the summit. Specific work was finally carried out on the mass in order to lower the weight to 950 kg.

A nod to Le Mans

The designers of the brand with the arrow A had to maintain certain original proportions for the car to remain eligible for the Time Attack 1 category. This is reflected in particular by the integration of a “type” shark fin. Le Mans » on the rear window and extending between the two sections of the rear wing. The light signature has been the subject of a more aggressive treatment. At the same time, the function of the rear lights has been offset in the vertical segments of the fins and central dorsal, such as a nod to Le Mans, while reinforcing the perceived width of the model.

THEAlpine Pikes Peak has already completed its first laps, on April 25 and 26 in Lurcy-Lévis (Allier). The tests will continue in May with a “real” development session in the Drôme, then in Val Thorens to research the altitude.

In Colorado, this Alpine will be driven by Raphaël Astier, who has a great history with the brand by being winner of the 2022 FIA R-GT Cup with the A110 Rally. Already with four participations in the American event, the Frenchman and Signatech will take off in mid-June to add a new peak to their record.
