Andrea Piccini: “I will always be a racing driver, I will never change my mindset”

An appointment was made in Vallelunga, north of Rome, for a few laps of the circuit behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Urus. Our 44-year-old driver discusses a variety of topics, from his former career on the floor to the Iron Lynx team, including the choice of drivers for Lamborghini's LMDh program in 2024.

Andrea Piccini, why did you choose this Lamborghini Urus for this ride?

Having a fast car is easy, except with an SUV. However, the Urus contains all the characteristics of the sportiest Lamborghinis in an urban 4×4. Very pleasant to drive, both with the family and on a circuit, this “Lambo” shows that the brand can be as efficient in a field different from that of sports cars. This car represents a major step forward in this new market.

And it is green, like the livery of the SC63 LMDh…

This is another reason why I chose it! This is the racing color of Lamborghini.

How is it that you master the language of Molière so well?

First of all, I love learning new languages. They are the best way to communicate with the people around you. And facilitate working relationships. Having started motorsport in a German team for which I went to race several times in England during the year, I learned English very early. As for the Frenchman, I had as a teammate for a long time (in FIA-GT. Editor's note) Jean-Denis Delétraz, Louis' father. It was in 2002, after leaving the car and started GT with BMS Team Italia that I met him during the first race of the season at Magny-Cours. He spoke good English, but his mother tongue being French (Delétraz is Swiss. Ed.), he alternated between the two. Little by little, I assimilated certain words.
