Andreas Roos: “When I was a kid, my father always drove BMWs”

It was in Florida, on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Daytona, that the German told us about his career. After twenty years in motorsport, he who dreamed of being a DTM racing engineer became the boss of the propeller firm's competition, succeeding his friend Mike Krack. A no-brainer for someone whose parents would have preferred him to take over the family pharmacies.

Hello Andreas! The choice of a BMW XM Competition does not surprise me. First of all, can you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am currently the director of BMW M Motorsport. I started my career in motorsport quite early. I've never done anything other than that in my entire professional career. I'm lucky that my passion is my job.

How was she born?

It started at a very young age, I was always sitting in front of the television watching races. My father loved motorsport. This interested me from the start even though I come from a family exclusively concerned with pharmaceuticals. My grandfather is a pharmacist, like my mother, my father and my sister. Everyone in my family circle is. I'm sort of the black sheep! When I was a kid, my dad always drove BMWs, never anything else. It must come from him. I started doing karting, but at some point I realized that it was better to be on the other side of the pit wall. The funny thing is that when I was doing karts, I applied for a BMW scholarship. I was invited to a selection, but I had an exam the same day. So I went to school and didn't join BMW at that time. I must have been 18 or 19 years old. My parents own two pharmacies, I told myself that I should take over their businesses. So, I started studying medicine. But after a year and a half, I realized that it wasn't for me.
