Franciscus van Meel: “BMW M stands for motorsport and emotions”

Franciscus “Frank” van Meel - CEO BMW M GmbH

It’s a beautiful panel of BMWs that we have in front of us! Which one is your favorite?

This is a difficult question ! I have six kids at home, and if you ask me who my favorite is, the answer depends on the day. These cars are all awesome. I think here I would take the BMW M4 CSL that is right in front of you because it is the one that adapts best to the track.

Why did you choose the M2 Coupé for this carpooling ?

The BMW M2 is quite pleasant too, because the roads are particularly narrow here around the circuit and in its inner part. This is why I preferred to take this model, which is fast and compact. Although, when I go out on American streets, I usually drive a BMW M X3, because it really makes sense in the United States. The good thing about this whole range of cars is that there is one for every use.

Tell us about your career at BMW…

I had quite a long professional career in the past! After studying automotive engineering, I started at what was still called ITT Automotive in 1994 before becoming Continental (the German tire manufacturer bought ITT Automotive in 1998. Editor’s note). At that time, I was working on the first DSC stabilization systems (for “Dynamic Stability Control”.
