Thanks Mr. Ferrari to receive us in this Purosangue. Is this your personal car?
Absolutely ! I drive a Purosangue every day, because for me it is the best interpretation of a Gran Turismo perfectly in tune with the times: comfortable, safe, pleasant to drive and capable of great performance. It's not red like you might expect, or maybe hope, but green like my dad's 250 GT California Spyder. A model from the year 1962 that he particularly liked and whose color he had specifically chosen. I in turn adopted it for this Purosangue which is part of the history of the brand as being the very first four-door model. Ferrari has always focused heavily on “2 + 2” coupes, but never yet on real four seats.
Do you remember your first automobile-related memory?
Still the 250 GT, but an older model than the one we have just mentioned. My father would pick me up from home when I was a child to take me to the hills around Modena. It must have been the early 1950s, maybe 1952. These walks were a sort of ritual as soon as there was a new model.
Was it during these walks that your desire to one day work with your father was forged?
I don't know when it happened, but I was always interested in mechanics. As a teenager, I took care of the maintenance of my little 50 cc on my own. I was fascinated by engines, engineering… It was probably in my genes.
So it was only natural that a little later you turned to engineering studies?
Yes, against the advice of my father who had other ambitions for me. He imagined me as a bishop in view of prestige and respectability, or a farmer at the head of a large agricultural operation. But when he saw that I was determined to study engineering, he offered little resistance.
