Dayraut, strategic victory

Despite his very good second day of competition at Alpe d'Huez, Jean-Philippe Dayraut does not want to triumph, knowing that the winter is still long. But above all, he is satisfied with having beaten Alain Prost in the field of strategy.

Dayraut, strategic victory

Jean-Philippe Dayraut, if he was somewhat embarrassed at not having taken full advantage of his weight advantage on Friday, made up for it on Saturday at Alpe d?Huez. Despite a 40 kg ballast, the Skoda driver was the fastest during the qualifying heats, before winning his final, ahead of Alain Prost. Having stocked up on points, the Haut-Garonnais now finds himself twelve points ahead of his rival.

« We wanted to approach the holiday break at the top of the Trophy and we couldn't dream of better, attests Jean-Philippe Dayraut. These 12 points ahead of Alain Prost constitute a small break, but obviously nothing decisive, with still 8 races on the calendar in January. The result from Alpe d?Huez is the result of a lot of teamwork to find the right settings throughout these two days. »

If, on paper, victory was not a foregone conclusion, the Skoda driver is satisfied with the strategy used to win. “ On Saturday we took some risks which paid off. I knew we had the means to win, but we had to put all the parameters in the right order. This is why I drove more with my head than with the accelerator. My personal satisfaction is to have piloted "the Prost way", to have taken him at his own game. It is not every day that we manage to beat the "Professor" on his terrain of strategy of race ! »
