Death of Claude Gachnang

Claude Gachnang died at the age of 87 this Tuesday, April 21. Georges' brother (three years his junior) had played a major role in the Swiss siblings' motorsport adventure.

In fact, the Swiss held the positions of engineer and mechanic within the Team CEGGA (Claude Et Georges Gachnang Aigle) since its foundation in 1959. Claude and Georges Gachnang worked in their workshop located in Aigle and built 12 competition cars between 1959 and 1967.

The high point came in 1960, where they participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an AC Ace Bristol in the GT category. The Georges Gachnang-André Wicky-John Gretener crew was not classified due to insufficient distance covered.

However, there were successes in hill climbs, in their native country but also abroad (Sierre-Montana, la Faucille, Ollon-Villars, Limonest, Mont Verdun, Montagne de Lure).

More recently, the Gachnang brothers focused on the restoration of a replica Ferrari 250 TR chassis 002/60, purchased by an English enthusiast. Claude Gachnang also carefully observed the sporting career of his great-niece, Natacha Gachnang in GT as well as his great-nephew Sébastien Buemi en Formula 1 then in Endurance.

All AUTO editorial staffhebdo extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Claude Gachnang.
