Dumas sets off to attack Pikes Peak again with Champion Racing

Quadruple winner of the legendary “Race to the Clouds”, Romain Dumas will do it again in 2021. The Alésien will be at the start of the 99th edition of Pikes Peak (Colorado) on June 27, but not aboard a Norma or Volkswagen as was the case during its victorious runs in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The Habs accepted the proposal from the American team Champion Racing. The structure founded by the late Dave Maraj had disappeared from competitions since the end of the 2008 season in the American Le Mans Series. Winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans with Audi in 2005, the team will return after a 12-year hiatus through the efforts of his sons Mitra and Naveen.

Romain Dumas will not, however, be in contention for victory in the general classification. Indeed, it will be entered in the Time Attack 1 class, reserved for production vehicles. Fortunately, it will not be an ordinary mass production car, but a Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport developing 700 horsepower from a 6 liter flat 3,8-cylinder biturbo engine!

This coupe will undoubtedly remind him of his first participation in the hill climb. In 2012, the Frenchman drove a 911 GT3 R Open and failed by only 17 thousandths against Rhys Millen, although registered in the Unlimited class!
