Dumas will tackle a new record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

There is no respite for Romain Dumas. A few weeks after achieving a new record on the climb of Pikes Peak (Colorado), the Alésien will find the cockpit of the Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak during the traditional Goodwood Festival of Speed (Great Britain, July 12-15).

The Frenchman is not going there just to parade around with the electric prototype. The objective is to register a new record for the electric category on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the English demonstration.

To inscribe his name in the tablets, Romain Dumas will have to do better than the representative of His Majesty Johnny Cocker, who had finished the 1,86 km climb in 47''34 aboard a Lola-Drayson B12 69/EV. Here's a test run below:

“The Goodwood Festival is a special event, which brings together the best drivers in the world, certifies the tricolor pilot. The ID R Pikes Peak may be young, but its record in the “Race to the Clouds” has made it a living legend. »

The silent racing car has undergone special preparation. Returning from the United States by air, the car will leave for England in the company of its ancestor, the 1987 Volkswagen Twin-Golf, who attempted the Pikes Peak adventure with two engines delivering 652 horsepower together. This funny car will be driven by veterans Hans-Joachim Stuck and Jochi Kleint.
