The Swede, world champion in the discipline in 2016, will drive on behalf of the team JC Raceteknik. A second Audi will be lined up for the Belgian Enzo Ide, known for his exploits in GT3 (Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup champion in 2016).
“Watching the Abu Dhabi event from my sofa, I found the idea of running again andattack the Eau Rouge at 200 km/h sideways, recognizes the man with 10 World RX victories. I asked Joel (Christoffersson, owner of JC Raceteknik. Ed.), if he was interested in my coming with my old world champion car from 2016. If that wasn't the case, I don't think I would have come back., he reveals.
Mattias Ekström specifies that he will not participate in the rest of the campaign. “It’s going to be nice to do this race for fun, because when you compete as a factory driver (as was the case with Audi Sport in DTM and in 2018 in World RX. Editor’s note), you have a lot of responsibilities and obligations.
The 2017-2018 double runner-up in the category makes no secret of his ambition. “I want to win this race, without discussion. » To mark the occasion, Mattias Ekström invites his fans to create his decoration via social networks. “Private message me your ideas or tag me in your photos and we can make something together.” »
